Hiring Begins for New Hotel
Embassy Suites in Downtown Grand Rapids Reaches Construction ‘Top Out.’
The Embassy Suites by Hilton in downtown Grand Rapids has been ‘topped out’. In construction terms this means the last structural beam has been set on top of the building.
“This project has taken a long time to get to this point, but we wanted to get things right from a construction and community standpoint and we’re delighted to get to this milestone stage,” said Peter D. Beukema, CEO and Visionary of Suburban Inns. “A hotel is often a person’s first impression of our city and this hotel will be something we can all be proud of.”
The Embassy Suites is located at 710 Monroe, near the 6th Street Bridge. The 7-story hotel will have 250 rooms and 440 parking spaces. It will also feature a Big E’s Sports Grill on the first floor as well as a banquet facility.
Suburban Inns partnered with Pioneer Construction on the project.
“Pioneer is pleased to be part of the team that Suburban Inns assembled to build this landmark project for Grand Rapids,” said Tim Schowalter, President of Pioneer Construction. “We especially appreciate their emphasis on quality and safety, and how well they value our people on the job With the topping out of the project, we’re entering the home stretch and it has come together really well.”
Construction on the hotel began in the spring of 2017. Completion of interior work and a grand opening are expected to be in early 2019.
Hiring has begun, with Brogan Spaulding being named Human Resources Manager for the Embassy Suites. Spaulding has been with Suburban Inns since 2015 working in the corporate offices. The next hire will be General Manager, with the position posted by mid-May. After that position is filled, the following key positions will be hired during the summer and fall: Director of Sales, Assistant General Manager, Chief Engineer, Executive Housekeeper, and various department staff supervisors. Eventually the hotel will employ nearly 250 people. All positions will be advertised on Suburban Inns web site (www.suburbaninns.com) and by other means.
